During a visit to a bright, modern bookstore, I had seen this stack of brand-new, flawlessly printed biography books on Marilyn Monroe carefully arranged on a bookshelf.

Looking at the books, I couldn't help but realize that this is all that remains. A whole life, complete with its towering triumphs and deep private sorrows, is neatly packaged as a consumer product.
