painting of a woman enjoying portrait of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol in museum

Gerard Boersma
acrylic on panel (masonite)
47" x 35 1/2" or 120 x 90 cm

After Marilyn Monroe died in August 1962 Warhol made more than twenty silkscreen paintings of her, all based on the same publicity photograph from the 1953 film Niagara. Warhol found in Monroe a fusion of two of his consistent themes: death and the cult of celebrity. By repeating the image, he evokes her ubiquitous presence in the media. Marilyn now represents timeless beauty and the woman on my painting is taking it all in.

Marilyn is an original, 100% handmade painting and comes with a hand signed Certificate of Authenticity. The painting is signed at the back and front.

Shipping takes about two weeks no matter where you live in the world. You'll receive your painting safely packaged and ready to install immediately.
