painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Wassily Kandinsky
acrylic on panel (masonite)
8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm
An early champion of abstract painting, Wassily Kandinsky is known for his lyrical style and innovative theories on nonfigurative art. In his 1910 treatise Concerning the Spiritual In Art, Kandinsky made famous his belief that abstract colors and forms can be used to express the 'inner life' of the artist. Kandinsky had a strong interest in the relationship between art and classical music, this theme apparent in many of his paintings.
I create small studies like In Red Spot in preparation for a finished piece or just as visual notes. I often use my small studies to understand the problems involved in rendering subjects and to plan the elements to be used in finished works, such as light, color, form, perspective and composition.
These small studies are exclusively available through my shop and blog. All studies are signed on the reverse.
