self portrait with Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci
acrylic on panel (masonite)
8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm
This painting shows me enjoying Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci. The painting shows Jesus Christ as Salvator Mundi (Latin for Savior of the World). Da Vinci painted it around 1500. Jesus gives a benediction with his right hand raised and two fingers extended.
It sold last year for a record breaking 450 million and is currently the most expensive painting ever to be sold at auction. I thought it was a perfect theme for my ongoing series of people in museums and of course there's a lot of symbolism here too.
I create small studies like Salvator Mundi in preparation for a finished piece or just as visual notes. I often use my small studies to understand the problems involved in rendering subjects and to plan the elements to be used in finished works, such as light, color, form, perspective and composition.
These small studies are exclusively available through my shop and blog. All studies are signed on the reverse.
Shipping takes about two weeks no matter where you live in the world. Price includes shipping and handling. You'll receive your painting safely packaged and ready to frame.
